Sir Henry Rider Haggard KBE was an English writer born in 1856, UK. Including King Solomon's Mines, he has authored 56 novels and 98 letters. Sir Henry is famous for his African adventure fiction set in exotic locations and lost worlds. He created the famous character, Allan Quartermain, adventurer and hunter.

Blurb

"Truly the universe is full of ghosts, not sheeted churchyard spectres, but the inextinguishable elements of individual life, which having once been, can never die, though they blend and change, and change again for ever."

Allan Quartermain is a hunter and adventurer who has been to many lands. While on a ship, he meets Sir Henry Curtis and Captain Good. Sir Henry requests Allan Quartermain to find his brother who was on an expedition in Africa to the King Soloman's Mines and has been missing since.

Allan Quartermain after hearing the whole narrative accepts the offer with some conditions. From here, three of them start an adventurous journey over the jungles and deserts of Africa. But they don't know what awaits for them on their journey, LIFE or DEATH?, as no one has ever returned from King Soloman's Mines.

Will they be able to reach the mines alive? What awaits for them on their journey? Did Sir Henry Curtis was able to find his brother?

My Opinion

Unskippable, Fast and Adventurous

The book, King Solomon Mines by Henry Rider Haggard is my first Classic Adventure Fiction and the plot is mind blowing. The author has not missed a single point of detail starting from Africa, its rich heritage and also the characters.

I would totally recommend the book for everyone if you want to know what an adventure is like. Although, the plot is set in a fictional place in Africa, but everything seems so real.

Character Portrayal

Each and every character have been given a detailed briefing in the book, King Solomon's Mines by Henry Rider Haggard, which makes them feel real.

Our Protagonists are strong, Intelligent and capable of handling every matter with intelligence and experience. There is no particular villain in the story, but ,Twala, the King of Kukuanaland has a major role to play. The writer has even took utmost care while describing Tertiary characters.

Narrative Style

Henry Rider Haggard has narrated the story, King Solomon's Mines in a linear style. A proper balance of narration of events and dialogues have been maintained. The language is also not tough to understand.
