Barbara Fradkin is a Canadian Mystery Writer who is best known for Inspector Green Series. She is a two-time winner of the Arthur Ellis Award for Best Novel. She has written many short stories like Baby Blues and The Minstrel Boy. She holds a PhD degree in Clinical Psychology from University of Ottawa. The famous Inspector Green Series has 10 novels.

Hannah, Inspector Green's daughter answers a routine call for domestic violence. While investigating Hannah's partner finds nothing suspicious about the couple and dropped the case. After few days, the police registers a complaint from the same couple, the wife saying that her husband is missing.
The whole family is put under radar, but the whole case takes a turn when another body is found related to the case. Hannah and Inspector Green, both try to fit the missing pieces in the case which leads them to uncover domestic abuse and justice for the right thing.

My Opinion
Fast and Full of Twists and Turns
The Devil To Pay by Barbara Fradkin is a fast paced crime thriller which would not let you blink away from the book. A breathtaking plot with so many twists and turns was totally unexpected. Every character is under suspicion which will keep you glued to the plot. Both, characters and plot have complemented each other. Nothing in the story is unnecessary and boring. Hannah as a rookie is a hit.
I would give the book 5 stars.
Character Portrayal
The Devil To Pay by Barbara Fradkin is a Inspector Green Series. But, Hannah, Green's daughter emerged out to be the hero of the story. She proved herself as a police officer and also that she is beauty with brains. The Anatagonist was kept in hiding by the author until the climax which was mind blowing. Tertiary characters have supported well.
Narrative Style
Barbara Fradkin has written in quite simple language, The Devil To Pay. The author has skillfully added twists which maintain interest throughout the story.
