Author Introduction

Born in the City of Leicester, Linda's parents were in the tailoring trade, and belonged to the Orthodox Jewish community. Her love affair with the printed word probably started when she was two, when she eagerly absorbed the alphabet as taught to her by her mother. The scribbling of poems and stories certainly dates back as early as six, and Linda's first efforts at a novel from the age of eleven. Stratmann attended Medway Street Infants and Junior School, in the days of the eleven plus, and from there she went to Wyggeston Girls Grammar School.

From the early 70s Linda was very active in science fiction fandom, attending a great many conventions. In 2001, she left the civil service, and in 2002 was commissioned to write her first published book on the history of chloroform.

Since then Linda have written several more books on historical true crime, and three biographies; also two crime fiction series set in Victorian England featuring female sleuths, Frances Doughty and Mina Scarletti. Stratmann have been a member of the Crime Writers Association since 2004 and was elected Chair in 2019.

Blurb

Before Dr Watson, there was Mr Stamford…

London, 1876

Mr. Stamford meets Sherlock Holmes while studying at St Bartholomew’s Medical College in London. With his intense stare and unorthodox methods of doing things, Holmes has already gained a reputation as an eccentric but brilliant man.

When suspected intruders are sighted at the British Museum, Holmes is called upon to give his opinion of what happened.

But before he can come to any conclusions, something horrifying happens – one of the great treasures of the world, the priceless Rosetta Stone, is stolen from the museum.

The thieves have left a note demanding a ransom. And if it is not fulfilled they threaten to cast the Stone into the ocean so it can never be found again.

With the police on the wrong track, it is down to Holmes to solve the complex case. And when the burglary case turns into a murder investigation, it becomes a race against time before more victims are killed.

My Opinion

The book, Sherlock Holmes and The Rosetta Stone Mystery by Linda Stratmann, certainly brings back the memories of tell- tales of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. The plot hooked me right from the beginning. And, the climax was totally unexpected. The story starts from a horror note, but, eventually jumps on to a marvelous tale of adventure and mystery.

I will definitely give the book 5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and Sapere Books for providing me an opportunity to read and review the book.

Character Portrayal

The author has portrayed Sherlock Holmes as we have always imagined him. Some new characters have been added to make the story more interesting. Although, I felt that the Antagonist had not much to do in the plot.

Narrative Style

Sherlock Holmes and The Rosetta Stone Mystery by Linda Stratmann is narrated from Sherlock's asisstant's point of view. The language is simple and easy to understand.
