Author Introduction

Ross Greenwood was born in 1973 in Peterborough and lived there until he was 20, attending The King's School in the city. Ross then began a rather nomadic existence, living and working all over the country and various parts of the world.

He found himself returning to Peterborough many times over the years, usually when things had gone wrong. It was on one of these occasions that Ross met his partner about 100 meters from his back door whilst walking a dog. Two children swiftly followed.

Fifty Years of Fear book was started a long time ago but parenthood and then after working in sales management all his life, Ross randomly spent four years as a prison officer. Ironically it was the four a.m. feed which gave him the opportunity to finish the book as unable to get back to sleep he completed it in the early morning hours.

There are two strands, one where the books concern lives affected by prison, and then Ross's detective series starring DI John Barton. The first Barton book, The Snow Killer hit the coveted number one spot on KOBO, with the second and third in the series not far behind.

Blurb

When DI Barton is asked to investigate a seemingly innocuous fire that kills, he believes it's either children fooling around or a worrying racially-motivated crime.

As he delves deeper into the case, he soon realizes that there is a history of similar blazes spread out over many years, all within a close area. An idea suggested by pathologist Mortis makes Barton suspect he has the arsonist’s motives wrong.

When a night worker comes forward with a tip, Barton narrows down the suspects. But with all of them acting suspiciously, he knows for sure that one or more of them must be lying. And when a huge house blaze shocks everyone, Barton fears the killer has lost all control.

Who is The Fire Killer? What will be next to burn?

My Opinion

A very original one written by Ross Greenwood. Life can be tough and sometimes, it makes people something else. The plot focusses on mental health with a hint of mystery and lots of thrill. At first the plot picks up at a very fast pace, slows down from the middle and again comes back with a bang in the climax. The climax was truly unexpected. The characters are good, especially, Lynette, who faced many struggles in her life. After reading the book, I can say that there are always two sides to a crime and each side has a story.

I would like to give the book 4 stars. Thanks to Netgalley, Rachel's Random Resources and Boldwood Books for providing me an opportunity to read and review the book.
