Years after the Mahabharata war, when Shri Krishna goes on a great journey, the Pandavas also head towards the Himalayas to merge into Ananta, where the other brothers except Dharmaraja and Draupadi, take turns disappearing into the snow. Dharmaraj alone reaches heaven in body where he finds that Duryodhana is enjoying the opulence of heaven while all the Pandava brothers are suffering the torment of hell. Seeing such an unexpected scene, Dharmaraja gets upset and protests against it. Even the story is mentioned in the ascension festival of Mahabharata.
The Mahabharata Nyaya Samiti (Manas) was created on the basis of this context. Shri Krishna forms this committee on the appeal of Dharmaraj and all the important characters of Mahabharata are questioned about their actions and the justification of their actions. And this epic 'Manas' is discussing the same committee. The committee is fictitious but the discussion and answers to the questions of the committee are entirely based on ancient and authentic references. Therefore, you can consider this composition and its statements as the authentic reference of Mahabharata.
My Opinion
Mahabharata Retold..............
Manas by Vivek Dutta Mishra is a poetic narration of the events after Mahabharata war. I already knew about the story, but while reading the poems, it was like a new world of Mythology. Each and every character have been elaborately described. The book answers a lot of questions arising in the reader's mind regarding the aftermaths faced by Pandavas after the war. It was an amazing read.
Definitely 5 stars for the book. Thanks to the author for providing me with an opportunity to read and review the book.
