Author Introduction

Monika Bhatti was born and raised in a small village in Delhi. Her father was a farmer and her mother is a housewife. Monika was fortunate that she was raised in a large family of aunts, and cousins which helped her to understand their inner worlds.

She did her graduation in Literature from Delhi university where she fall in love with stories. Later on, she completed her master's in Computer application and currently working in an IT company.

Her love for stories never faded. Though she is a software engineer, she always wanted to become a writer. This is her debut novel which talks about women’s suppression and child abuse. In her words, Her childhood plays an important part in this story. Her surrounding is what shaped it.

This book is her way to educate people about this topic. And how important it is to be kind towards others. Be it, Men or Women. Be it a girl or boy child. No human on this earth deserves such violence. This book is her attempt to spread the message of kindness and love.

Blurb

The only good thing about pain is that it connects. And “Lives not Lived” is a story about the same connection. It is a story about Haree and Naina who are dealing with the same kind of struggles but are still hoping to survive.

This book talks about child marriage, abuse, and courage. It's a story about all the innocent children who could not protect themselves. It’s a journey of women who always lived in silence. It’s a silent journey we all go through or see around us.

Haree, a young girl was married off when she was 16. She always lived a simple life. She had accepted the anger that her father had for her mother for giving birth to only girls the way women lived and were treated, everything was acceptable to her. She had no desire of any kind until she married Ram.

Naina is different from Haree. She did not want to accept the restrictions, neither she wants to break them. All she wants is to live in her own imagination where she could play and sing and dance. But everything changes for both of them when they came face to face with pain. When life broke them, they call out every ounce of courage to save themselves and others around them.

My Opinion

Lives Not Lived by Monika Bhatti is a heart shattering book of two women with different backgrounds. I loved the setting of the plot and the author has beautifully connected the two people. Haree's life was more interesting for me. While reading the book, I felt connected with the characters. The women are beaten by society but are still confident and powerful. The characters are like an inspiration to all the other women who think that they are weak. The plot has some unnerving episodes which are full of sadness and anger. For me the book holds a special place in my heart.

The cover and the title totally resonates with the plot. All the voices of the women characters have been captured beautifully. Their journey throughout the climax will touch your heart. The book is too emotional and heart- wrenching. Definitely the book deserves 5 stars and a full recommendation from me.
