But in 1965 the world is changing, and she suddenly imagines a different path for her life. When her brother ships out to serve in Vietnam, she impulsively joins the Army Nurses Corps and follows his path.

As green and inexperienced as the young men sent to Vietnam to fight, Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war, as well as the unexpected trauma of coming home to a changed America. My Opinion

The Women by Kristin Hannah is a work of war fiction based on female characters. The first half of the story takes us into the Vietnam War from the POV of a nurse. It was really sad to know about the situation of women during those times. Frances McGrath, our main character, has been given the look of a bold and courageous woman who became the voice of thousands of American women.

The second phase of the story was totally different. The author narrates the aftereffects of a war on soldiers. But nurses were made an exception from the horrifying ordeals. And this was the only thing that drove the whole story. The emotional and personal struggle that Frances went through was so real.

I like the friendship element between Frances and her friends, which acted like a pillar for her. Although the story doesn't have any actual ending, which I was craving for, it still turned out to be a wonderful book of love and friendship amidst war. Definitely, the book deserves 4 stars.
