David Sodergren lives in Scotland with his wife Heather and his best friend, Boris the Pug.

Growing up, he was the kind of kid who collected rubber skeletons and lived for horror movies. Not much has changed since then.

Since the publication of his first novel, The Forgotten Island, he has written and published a further eight novels, including the gore-soaked folk-horror Maggie's Grave and the romantic and disturbing The Haar.

My Opinion

The Haar by David Sodergren is a creature and folk horror that deserves more recognition. This book was suggested by my friend, and without a second thought, I picked it up. The plot starts with very simple characters living in a peaceful village. But soon things take a different turn, and the story takes a jet flight into a realm of terror. At some places the story has some gory scenes of blood and death. But, it seems everything compensates to the plot in an amazing way.

The book is single POV and fast-paced. The climax was like a thriller movie. Also, I felt that whatever was happening was for good as Muriel, the main character, was fighting for justice. If you are looking for something short and entertaining, then it's just for you. The book definitely deserves 5 stars.
