Have you ever experienced feelings of alienation because society struggles to accept you for who you truly are ❓❓❓
I have always felt left out among my peers as I had a very different taste from them. Due to this my friendship never lasted with anyone as I never hesitated from speaking what I don't like.

The protagonist, Yozo Oba, struggles to reconcile his outward appearance of normalcy with his internal feelings of alienation and despair. Through a series of notebooks, Yozo recounts his life from childhood to adulthood, highlighting his inability to understand human nature, his descent into substance abuse, and his attempts to find solace in relationships.
Dazai's raw and unflinching portrayal of Yozo's journey offers readers an intimate glimpse into the mind of a person grappling with existential dread and self-identity. The novel is a poignant exploration of the human condition, touching on themes of isolation, depression, and the search for meaning in a seemingly indifferent world.
With its haunting prose and profound introspection, "No Longer Human" remains a powerful and enduring work that continues to resonate with readers worldwide.

My Opinion
No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai, with its powerful narration, reflects on the topic of alienation. You can easily understand the book if you have read Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. The book focuses on a person who is different from the society and is pushed to his limits. Yozo Oba is a boy who is handsome and always liked by women. Due to this he is always confronted by people about his choices in life. No one is actually ready to accept him as he is in person. Maybe the society has always been like this. They just want people who can do what everyone does.
This book had a different meaning for me, as my whole life I have struggled to make friends. They wanted someone who is like them, thinks and talks like them. I was always sidelined because my interests were very different from theirs. The author's work is so exquisite and full of deep emotions that it makes an immediate connection with the readers. The book definitely deserves 5 stars.
