We Used To Live Here | Marcus Kliewer | Horror | Book Review

"If you ever found yourself living in a house that seemed haunted, with strange noises, flickering lights, and eerie happenings, what would you do?"

"If my house was haunted, I’d first try to be brave… but let’s be honest, the moment something whispers my name at 3 AM, I’m out. Forget calling a priest—I’d let the ghosts keep the house, maybe even pay the rent. I’ll be moving in with the neighbors!"

You let them back in. You shouldn't have...

Young couple Charlie and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they got on an old house deep in the mountains.

One day, a man knocks on the door. He says he lived there years before and asks if he can show his family around.

But, as soon as they enter, strange things start to happen. Eve is desperate for them to leave and never come back. But they can’t – or won’t – take the hint that they are no longer welcome.

Then, Charlie vanishes, and Eve begins to lose her grip on reality.

She’s convinced there’s something terribly wrong with the house and its past inhabitants . . . or is it all in her head?

My Opinion

We Used To Live Here by Marcus Kliewer is a gripping horror thriller that perfectly captures the eerie atmosphere of a haunted house. The story pulls you in right from the first page, with its chilling setting and realistic characters that make you question your own perceptions. The author skillfully builds suspense, creating an unsettling feeling that lingers throughout. At times, the tension is so strong that I found myself doubting what was real and what wasn’t. However, as the story nears its conclusion, things start to get confusing. The lines between illusion and truth blur so much that it becomes hard to tell who the real culprit is. Despite the perplexing ending, the book succeeds in maintaining a deeply haunting tone that keeps readers on edge. It’s an atmospheric and thought-provoking read that horror lovers will definitely enjoy. The book deserves 4 stars.
