My Opinion

The Possession of Alba Díaz by Isabel Cañas is a women-centric horror story that explores possession, freedom, and the constraints of societal expectations. The first part builds a genuinely eerie atmosphere, particularly through its connection to the mine and silver, creating a strong sense of terror and intrigue. However, the story loses some momentum as it progresses and begins to drag in places. I was hoping for a more consistently terrifying horror experience, but the narrative eventually shifts its focus toward the romantic entanglements between the protagonists. At its core, Alba’s yearning for freedom takes centre stage, making this feel more like literary fiction with occasional flashes of horror.
