Blurb
This is a story of Gurdev and his cohort, a group of refugees who travel east from Pakistan after Partition. It is a tale of falling apart and coming together as the world burns around them.
Will Gurdev be successful in his new business of making garments for women? Will he find love after his wife and children leave his side? There may be uncertainty here, but there is also relentless hope.
Journey back in time and experience the refugee spirit as Ladies' Tailor captures you with all its romance, adventure and one man's iron will to not just survive, but to thrive with new beginnings.
My Opinion
An Emotional JourneyLadies' Tailor by Priya Hajela is not just a book, in fact, it is a journey spanning the life during partition. Gurdev, a victim of partition where thousands of lives were lost, tries to find his place in new India. The storyline takes you to 1947 which was really heart wrenching and emotional. The book has a special meaning for me as my ancestors also faced this during India Bangladesh partition. Very small details have been captured by the author to portray the picture of India in 1947. All the characters have their own story and life. While reading the book, it felt like I am living the era. For those who do not know what partition did to us, the book will be absolutely perfect.
