Angeline Boulley is an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians based in Michigan. She is the former director of the Office of Indian Education at the U.S. Department of Education and gained attention for this debut novel thanks to the non-profit organisation We Need Diverse Books. Angeline lives in southwest Michigan but considers ‘home’ to be Sugar Island.

My Opinion

Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley is a story set in tribal culture with a hint of thriller. The plot starts with killings and drugs, throwing us into a whirlwind of action and drama. But I am really not impressed with the FMC. Her reactions were so immature that everything felt unreal. All the other characters were good and well placed. I liked the description of the Native American culture as I have come across it for the first time in a book.

This book was on my TBR for a long time, and I finally found time to read it. By the end, the plot became really slow, and I lost interest. Still, the book is worth a one-time read. I would like to give the book 3 stars.
