Do you enjoy horror movies ❓❓ What's your favorite one ❓❓

Name of Book: Horror Movie

Publication Date: 1 July 2024
No. of Hours: 7 Hours 49 Minutes
Format: Audiobook

In June 1993, a group of young guerilla filmmakers spent four weeks making Horror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick.

The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big budget reboot.

The man who played 'The Thin Kid' is the only surviving cast member. He remembers all too well the secrets buried within the original screenplay, the bizarre events of the filming and the dangerous crossed lines on set that resulted in tragedy. As memories flood back in, the boundaries between reality and film, past and present start to blur. But he’s going to help remake the film, even if it means navigating a world of cynical producers, egomaniacal directors and surreal fan conventions – demons of the past be damned. But at what cost?

Horror Movie is an obsessive, psychologically chilling and suspenseful feat of storytelling genius that builds inexorably to an unforgettable, mind-bending conclusion.

Paul Tremblay has won the Bram Stoker and British Fantasy awards and is the author of Disappearance at Devil's Rock, A Head Full of Ghosts, The Cabin at the End of the World, Growing Things, Survivor Song and The Little Sleep and No Sleep Till Wonderland omnibus. He is currently a member of the board of directors for the Shirley Jackson Awards, and his essays and short fiction have appeared in Entertainment Weekly.com, and numerous year's-best anthologies. He lives outside Boston with his family.

My Opinion

Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay is truly something out of the ordinary when it comes to horror fiction. The story stands out for its originality and subtle, creeping sense of dread that doesn’t rely on typical horror tropes. Tremblay masterfully builds an eerie atmosphere, drawing the reader in with a sense of mystery and unease. The plot itself is unique, layered with tension that unfolds slowly and skillfully. However, one significant drawback is the frequent shift between past and present timelines. These transitions often happen abruptly, which makes the narrative feel disjointed at times. As a result, I found myself confused, struggling to stay grounded in the storyline. While the concept and writing are compelling, the rapid timeline switches disrupt the flow and require extra focus to follow. Despite this, the novel remains a haunting and memorable read for those who enjoy psychological horror with a twist. The book deserves 3 stars.
