It's Dark In Here | Frank Oreto | Horror Anthology | Netgalley ARC Book Review

What are you currently reading ?? I am currently reading Model House by Rivers Solomon, and so far it is engaging, atmospheric, and emotionally compelling, with a narrative that is steadily drawing me in.

Author: Frank Oreto
Publication Date: Oct 14, 2025
No. of Pages: 289

Frank Oreto writes stories that pry the top off the ordinary world and let the strange pour in.

· A baby-eating monster on a mission from God

· Your average, everyday, wereworm next door

· Small Gods who expect enormous sacrifices

· Halloween Decorations that keep back the real terrors

· And of course a Las Vegas Wedding Chapel Preacher and the Ghost of Elvis Presley doing their best to save the world.

Unsettling, imaginative, and impossible to forget. This is a collection for readers who want the weird to linger long after the last page is turned.

My Opinion

It’s Dark in Here by Frank Oreto is a collection of creepy short stories that explores different shades of unease and quiet horror. Each story presents a unique idea, and none of them felt familiar or repetitive, which gives the collection a sense of originality. However, not all the stories were equally engaging, and a few failed to leave a lasting impact. Some narratives felt weaker in execution despite having interesting concepts. My favorite story, “All God’s Creatures Got Reasons,” stood out for its genuinely creepy atmosphere and strong storytelling. It delivered the kind of unsettling feeling that lingers after reading. Overall, the book has its highs and lows, but it is worth picking up for horror readers who enjoy short, experimental tales. It works well as a one-time read for those seeking something different. The book deserves 3 stars.
