Artemis | Andy Weir | Sci Fi Thriller | Book Review

Have you DNF’d any books this month? How much time or how many pages do you give a book before calling it quits?

I ended up DNF’ing two books this month. I usually give a book a fair chance before deciding, and in both cases I read about half of the story before putting them down. I really try to stay patient in case the plot picks up, but if I’m still not invested by the halfway mark, I take it as a sign that it’s just not the right book for me.

Name of Book: Artmeis
Author: Andy Weir
Publisher: Cornerstone Digital
Publication Date: 30 Jan 2020
No. of Pages: 320
Format: Digital

WELCOME TO ARTEMIS. The first city on the moon.
Population 2,000. Mostly tourists.
Some criminals.

Jazz Bashara is one of the criminals. She lives in a poor area of Artemis and subsidises her work as a porter with smuggling contraband onto the moon. But it's not enough.

So when she's offered the chance to make a lot of money she jumps at it. But though planning a crime in 1/6th gravity may be more fun, it's also a lot more dangerous.

When you live on the moon, of course you have a dark side...

My Opinion

I picked up this book because I absolutely loved Andy Weir’s The Martian and Project Hail Mary and consider myself a big fan of his writing. His stories usually stand out for their scientific depth, clever problem-solving, and gripping detail that keeps me fully invested. However, this one felt very different. The plot seemed just okay and lacked the strong technical detail I was expecting. Much of the focus was on Jazz Bashara, a character I struggled to connect with or enjoy. After pushing myself to reach the halfway mark, I finally decided to DNF it, as it just wasn’t working for me.
